Choose your city London, Sydney, Austin, San Francisco, Paris, Lisbon, Berlin — over and over again we are losing the character of our cities to developers with no regard for culture and the organic development of neighbourhoods and the cultivation of identity. My city was NYC — over my years in London it became increasing clear moving back would be a step backwards and cost-prohibitive. I came as a gentrifier and I left as the gentrified. But so much of what I loved about the city was already gone. I was stuck in London— at least for a while which wasn’t exactly new to me anymore, but continued to roll out exciting possibilities.
